The Whale That Walked on Land

Alagiah: He is this woman called between the two loves, there also a lot of other people called between two places, and there also is this whale. Now you are going to explain this whale, called Diana. And it is simple no matter again and just tell us about this whale.

Anam: So the great thing of being a writer is that you can take all the quirky things that are interesting to you, that put them in books. And if you try hard, you can wave these men to make as though these men to be there. So I can be fascinating with the story of this whale this whale. So whales as spices actually a world from land mammals that looked a little bit like dogs, and then slowly over time a little bit lower back to 50,000 years ago they went into the sea, so they were in between spices, called Ambulocetes which called walk-whale, which both walked and swam. So they are mammals, they behave like amphibians. And Zubaida is obsessed with these mammals with whale, and she goes on a dig to try to find him. She released the species, because she feels like she is one of them. Throughout the novel, she is looking for the whale, and boil this whales and trying and failing to find him. It is just kind of image for her to look to find herself in the fossils pf these creatures that walk and swim at the same time.

Alabiah: It is much more than kind of profession curiosity she is telling us, but she is paying the telling much more for this searching for the dinosaurs, this whale.

Anam: Wow, yeah, I mean it is also for her to not answer the question which he really wants to ask which is who am I, she is trying to her own origin and she is trying to find the origin of the whale. And it is kind of placement for her.

Alagiah: In the book it by the falling in love with the dig and she goes on the dig and the dig just doesn’t go well, and she find herself back home and gather with family. And she doesn’t fit in.

W: that’s right, yeah. She goes home and that is a great home coming and everybody is waiting for her and she has the sweet heart and she was supposed to marry, you tell later that she does and marry him. But she feels completely like a fish in the water, and she had never really felt her family is there. Somehow the experience of going away and falling in love with someone else coming back makes that she can never belong there anymore. I think she is a symbolic of all of us. You know that it is rare for people to be born, grow up and die in one place. You know we have kind of loyalties all kinds of these places because of love or because of travel or relationships. And she is one of those people. You know she leave the heart behind she goes to the other placed to be with her beloved. So she ends not much fitting in these back, she is deeply kind of disturbed by this.

Quirky: adj. 奇妙的

Symbolic: adj. 象征的
