Friends

 

俗话说,人生得一知己足矣,千金易得,朋友难求。朋友是人的精神生活中一个重要的组成部分,没有朋友的人,就像生活在寂寞的荒野;缺乏朋友的人,就会感到人间的孤独。人们需要朋友,但是生活之中有很多人因为交友不慎而让自己受到伤害。那么,我们应该结交什么样的朋友?在你心目中什么样的朋友才是真正的朋友呢?

 

As we all know, friends is an important part in our life. It is a human instinct to make friends. But sometimes we do not know what kind of friends we need. Are they to be close or kept at arm’s length? Do we want to share everything with each other or do we want to walk on the surface? What is your opinion?

Practicing in Conversation   “习语串烧,快乐学舌”

 

John: What on earth happened to the hotel staff? Everyone seems to be pulling their weight (卖力,尽最大的努力).

Mark: The manager gave them a pep talk (鼓舞士气的话)and told them they had better shape up (成型,成形,打起精神) or they would get a pink slip (被解雇)

John: I know he'd get around to (开始干) it. If I was in his position (处在某人的位置), I wouldn't have let things drift (让事情拖延下去).

Mark: I'm glad he clamped down on (压制,抵制)them. And now his business is turning for the better (向好的方向发展).

John: Off the record (不能引用的,别提了).How about the manager himself? I hear that he's a fussy boss.

Mark: How do you know?

John: A bird told me (有人私下跟我说的,这个你就别问了).

Mark: Well...er...he only barks too much. But he means well.

John: A friend of mine told me that the boss often jumps down his throat (把某人气得够呛,让某人受不了).

Mark: But your friend should know that his bark is worse than his bite. (嘴虽厉害但心不坏)

John: It seems you have a high opinion of (高度赞扬,自以为是) him.

Mark: I'm only giving the devil his due (公平对待,一视同仁,平心而论).

John: But you wouldn't tell on me (告发某人), wouldn't you?

Mark: Don't worry .By the way , are you afraid he's out to get you?

John: What are you driving at? He hasn't got anything on (抓住某人的把柄,掌握某人犯错误的证据) me. My record is clean.

Mark: I'm sorry if I have barked up the wrong tree. (错怪某人)But I feel you bear him a grudge (对某人怀恨在心).

John: That's hogwash. (那是废话)
