John: Why did you get so cross with (...的气) Jack?

Mark: Because he ruined (毁坏,毁灭)my business.

John: What on earth did he do?

Mark: He butted in (插手,干涉,插嘴) and loused up (...搞糟,把...弄坏) my talk with a client.

John: Don't worry. We can try and iron out the problem (消除困难,排除困难).

Mark: That would be ploughing the air (白费力气,枉费心机).

John: But don't you think we can save the situation somehow?

Mark: Not even a dog's chance (一点机会也没有).

John: Come on. Things are not that bad.

Mark: What's you idea?

John: We can turn to someone else and ask him to help clear things up (理顺事情的头绪,消除误解).

Mark: But you must make sure Jack won't poke his nose into (探听,干涉) it again.

John: He's off his rocker (发疯) these days. I'll tell him to mind his own business (不干涉他人的事情).

Mark: I don't think he is on the level (公正).

John: He's not that sort of person. Let's chalk it up to experience (记住教训).

Mark: But we are already in a jam (陷入困境) and our client has already torn up (撕毁) the contract.

John: In that case, we won't flog a dead horse (白费力,事后做无意义的争论). We can certainly get another client soon.

Mark: Let's hope for the best (往好处想,做最好的打算).
