1.Islamic State Claims Responsibility for London Attack

Prime Minister Theresa May said the attacker who killed three people near the British Parliament was born in Britain. And he was investigated by the country's intelligence agency MI-5 "in relation to concerns about violent extremism." May added that there was no earlier information on the suspect's plan or his reason for carrying out the attack. Investigators believe that the attacker was influenced by "Islamist ideology." Shortly after May spoke with members of the parliament, the Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility saying the attacker was a "soldier of Islamic State."On Wednesday, the attacker crashed an SUV into pedestrians near the Parliament building. The large vehicle killed two persons and injured many others. The attacker then stabbed a police officer to death before being fatally shot by another officer. The attack injured about 40 people, including visitors from South Korea, China, Germany, France, Romania, Greece, Ireland, Italy and the United States. Twenty-nine people have been hospitalized. Seven are in critical, or extremely serious, condition.

2.South Korean Businesses, Culture Face Backlash in China

China is South Korea's biggest trading partner and many Chinese are big fans of Korean pop culture. But Korean businesses say they are suffering because of a dispute over a missile defense system located in South Korea. American forces have already begun deploying some parts of the anti-missile system, known as THAAD. U.S. and South Korean officials say the system is needed as a "defensive measure" to counter the threat of missile attacks from North Korea. But China has repeatedly spoken out against THAAD, saying the U.S. could use the system's radar technology to monitor Chinese military activity. For months, Chinese state-run media have called for a boycott of South Korean products over the THAAD deployment. Many South Korean companies and media stars say they have lost business over the dispute.Chinese and South Korean experts see the entertainment industry as intentionally targeted due to Beijing's opposition to the THAAD system.

3.Chinese economy to lead global recovery: IMF official

BEIJING - China will remain a strong engine of global recovery with its ongoing economic reforms, an official with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Saturday."Steering its economy to a sustainable path will benefit China itself and the world as a whole," said IMF Deputy Managing Director Zhang Tao at the China Development Forum 2017 in Beijing. The country and other emerging economies have contributed over 70 percent of global economic growth in recent years and will remain such a contributor, he said. China's 6.7-percent growth in 2016 hit a 26-year low, but still outpaced most other economies and accounted for more than 30 percent of global growth. The IMF forecast the world's economy would grow 3.4 percent in 2017 and 3.6 percent next year, with gathering momentum for recovery and rising challenges. Resistance to economic integration and political uncertainties need to be addressed, Zhang said, calling for more inclusive and balanced global economic growth.
